Christians, We Can Do Better Than "Keep Your Legs Closed"
It never ceases to amaze me that comments such as "keep your legs closed" or "keep it in your pants" still pop up under articles about abortion in this day and age. Last week's article by Richard Grant about Tanya Plibersek, and her calls for uniform laws to make abortion more readily available, attracted many comments like this. Obviously, I can see the hypocrisy and share the outrage of our readers, but honestly, can't we come up with more constructive comments that express the reality of the situation, and not just one crudely-worded aspect related to unplanned pregnancies? [The same goes for such comments as "They (abortion advocates) should be aborted" or calls for 'retrospective' abortions.]

Let's Redefine Marriage to Include Single Parents
After a week of engaging in some ugly online discussions, I've begun to wonder if I should be defending marriage so vehemently. After all, I'm a single mother - another victim of the sexual revolution and its poison. So who's to say that my household is something less than it could be? Here are some issues related to same-sex marriage applied to a single-parent marriage: 1. My family and I feel hurt Yes, my children and I do feel hurt when we see the topic of marriage being discussed so openly on television, in print and on social media. We hurt when we see articles about Christian marriage, about Catholic marriage, and about the damage done by divorce. I hurt when I have to explain that I have an annulment and what that means. I spend my time defending traditional marriage and am called a bigot or pedophile-enabler for my trouble. I feel very hurt, sometimes to the point of tears, when my opposition throws up the divorce-rate of heterosexuals - and I'm part of that statistic.
A Letter from Jail
Today I received a letter from an inmate of a Queensland jail. I have never met this man in person but it is probably the fourth or fifth time that he, Michael, has written to me during the last eight years that he has been in prison. Michael first initiated contact when he read a newspaper article about me being in prison. (I was “inside” for engaging in non-violent sit-ins in front of the doors of abortion clinics.) Although each of us ended up in jail by way of very different routes we do share a common concern – we both believe that the deliberate taking of the life of a child in the womb is terribly wrong. Unlike many, probably the large majority of pro-lifers, Michael does not profess to hold any Christian or religious beliefs - not that he is antagonistic to those who do oppose abortion based on Christian convictions. Rather, in his own words, he is motivated to oppose abortion because, “my memory of the time before my birth is something very, very strong and I recognise it has happened for a reason,” and, “It is not due to ‘conviction’ that I oppose abortion-on-demand, it is love.”
